Yea this is a project I had to do, so yea. ;D
Unusual Cats
Introduction
The reason I chose unusual cats for my I-Search topic is that on a summer day last year I found a cat sitting on my driveway. We gave him food and he never left. Now he is our pet. But why strange cats? Well my cat tends to have an unusual behavior. He climbs up the screen door when he wants in; he hops up on the computer desk and sits in front of the screen, when I’m on the computer. I learned a lot about the unusual cats, like I never knew that there was a cat that has short legs and body and that kind of looks like a Dachshund called a Munchkin. I discovered that a small cat called a Pixiebob that is bred here in the United States! The Pixiebob is a small little cat that looks like a Bobcat and it originated in South America. I found out that a small cat with a short tail, so short that it looks like it has no tail. Called a Manx, it is a very playful type of cat.
Manx
Manx are a type of cat with no tail. Well they really have a tail but it is so short it looks like they have no tail. I learned that Manx have widely spaced ears and a thick coat. Another interesting thing is that they have short forelegs and their back legs are longer so they do a ‘bunny hop’ as a walk. Their heads are large and round and their eyes keep color with their fur pattern. Manx have a curved back and that makes their backs higher than their shoulders. They have a thicker undercoat than their top coat. They also have a compact body shape to them. Because they have a short tail, where their tail normally begins they have a hollow space. They also have muscular thighs and straight front legs. I discovered that the Manx has a wide verity of fur patterns. They can have Blue Tabby, White, Red, Silver Tabby, Black and White, Tortoiseshell, Red Classic Tabby and last but not least Brown Classic Tabby. I learned that Manx have a very odd behavior. As I said before, Manx have a ‘Bunny Hop’ as a walk because their forelegs are shorter than their back legs. They also can’t hold their business in. So try to teach them not to go outside for the bathroom! Your probably wondering where this strange cat was originated? Well the Manx was originated on the Isle of the Man. It was also bred for it’s roundness at the time.
Munchkin
Munchkins are a very short cat. Basically it is a dwarf cat. I learned that their paws are round and compact. They also have short but strong legs. Their neck is thick and firmly muscled. Their head is somewhat triangular with a medium length nose. Their eyes are walnut shaped and their body is medium sized. Munchkins have very distinct fur patterns. I discovered that they can have Red Classic Tabby, Seal Point, Sepia, Milk White, Black, Tortoiseshell and White and Red spotted Tabby. I also learned that they have a un cat like behavior. They have a playful personality and tend to be very hyper, that makes them appealing and inquisitive. The Munchkins history is very interesting. Their date of origin is unknown and the state of origin is the Untied States. Their ancestry is household cats and they were bred for ten years in North America. The breed wasn’t recognized until 1955 and some people produced Rexed Curled Munchkins. All of these wonderful qualities make a perfect cat for anyone who is loving!
Pixiebob
Pixiebobs are a kind loving cat. I learned that Pixiebobs look like a wild cat. Or to be more specific, a Bobcat. There is really no other way to describe it. They also have very distinct fur patterns. They can be any tabby colors you can think of. Pixiebobs behavior is very different also. Instead of being hyper active and running like crazy around the house and bumping into things, Pixiebobs are quiet and affectionate. They also prefer to be the only cat in the house but can get along well with other animals if it needs to. Pixiebobs have the faithful and loyal attitude of a dog. So if you do want a dog, but can’t get one for any reason these cats will be perfect for you! But if you are moving or move a lot, I’m afraid that you have no chance my friend, because Pixiebobs don’t favor moving. I discovered that Pixiebobs have an interesting history, like the cats were first a quarried by a lady named Carol Ann Brewer; also its founding breed was called the Pixie. The date of origin was the 1980’s and the place of origin is North America. The ancestor is the Bobcat.
Conclusion
So, as you can see I learned a lot about Manx’s, Pixiebob’s and Munchkin’s. But I still want to learn more. Maybe next time I’ll do something on regular cats. I don’t know. But anyways this could be a very important if you are trying to pick the type of cat that you would like, like a Manx who has no tail, or a Munchkin who is a short dwarf cat and even a Pixiebob who looks like the wondrous Bobcat. Just imagine your dream cat prancing along in your house, could just be a few minutes, hours or days away!
