The Island This is a story I had to write for school but it was pretty good so I though I might share it with you. It is about a 14 year old maid in the 1800s, who gets stuck on an island with some other people. You'll have to read it to find out what happens![/center] Mary shivered as a raindrop slid down her back. The sea tossed and turned the wooden ship, as if it was merely a toy for it to play with, but it was the first time she had set foot ion a boat and she wanted to see and know everything about it. The captain steered the ship with expert timing, avoiding jagged rocks and the huge, hungry waves that were waiting to devour them. Inside the boat, Lady Anne and Lord Henry sat rolling their eyes at the naïve maid. They weren’t looking for adventure like the other two. “I won’t be able to control the ship for much longer,” the captain yelled, with his Scottish accent, “this storm will rip her to pieces!” Mary could tell just by looking at him that he was finding it harder and harder to control the ship. The young maid looked into the horizon, trying to see how much further the dark clouds went on for, but spotted a large, grey shape instead. She peered at it, ignoring the heavy rain that was spoiling her dress. As it grew closer she realised that it was land! Surely they could rest there until the storm died down. As she pointed it out to the captain a relieved look spread across his face and he changed direction, to head for land.

Yeah. It had to be island related, so the first thing that people thought of was lost but mine is quite different later on in the story. Anyway, here's the second bit.
It was the next day when Mary woke up. She admired her surroundings, the golden sun shone, making everything seem exotic and yellow but soon she noticed what the island was actually like. In front of her lay a beach of stones, their edges were as sharp as knives. She turned around after examining the stormy sea and saw a huge mountain rising above a cloud of trees. The sky was cloudy and dull but it wasn’t raining and as she looked around in awe she could hear cries and calls of creatures. They sounded like nothing she had ever heard before.
Mary walked back to the others, hoping that the captain would let her explore but to her horror he was not there. Lord Henry and Lady Anne didn’t seem to have noticed and they didn’t care when she told them either. When she asked if they had seen him he just ignored her. She was nothing but a foolish maid, after all. “Captain!” She called out, but there was no reply. She rolled her eyes, as a thought came into her head. He would be on the boat, of coarse. She turned back towards the sea, expecting the ship to be there but all she could see was the grey sky hitting the even darker water. Panic rose inside her.

She knew the captain would never abandon them but the Lord and Lady weren’t convinced. “He’s left us to rot!” Lady Anne cried out. “He wants to make us suffer. And after all those years of letting him use our ship!” Lord Henry declared, nodding in agreement. Mary looked around, hoping he hadn’t really left. “He couldn’t work the ship alone…” She cried, although they all knew he could. Mary paused to think up another excuse. She spotted it one the ground. “And what about that.” She said, pointing down and some marks in the ground. She kneeled down to inspect them closer. It was a trail, not of someone who walked away but of someone who had been dragged away, against their will. The old couple gasped. “We need to find and save him!” She said, hoping they’d agree but they wanted to stay on the beach and waited for a passing ship to stop and help them. “I’m not spending my day looking for a mere servant.” The Lord cried with outrage, as if she had asked him to climb a mountain for her. But as Mary walked off, full of anger, the Lord and Lady followed reluctantly. They were afraid to be left alone on the creepy island.
The small group struggled to walk through the thickly packed rainforest. They looked around in silent wonder, ignoring the heat and dampness. So far they hadn’t encountered any of the creatures Mary had heard and she hopped they wouldn’t. At that moment there was a huge roar. It was as loud as thunder and the creature appeared as fast as lightening. Back at the manor Lady Anne owned several cats, which were all old and friendly. The creature was like a giant version but didn’t look friendly and certainly didn’t look as if it would be satisfied with some crunchy cat biscuits. For a couple of seconds the group and the beast examined each other, waiting for someone to move. Then the giant cat let out another bloodcurdling roar and pounced at Lord Henry. Mary ran, closely followed by Lady Anne. They both knew that Lord Henry hadn’t survived and didn’t dare look back.
